From Idea to Finished Hat: Why I Created the Freyja's Customs™ Hat Design Planner

From an Idea in Your Head to a Hat in Your Hands

If you've ever sat down with a blank hat, a pile of patches, chains, rhinestones, studs, charms, and hardware and thought, Okay...where do I even start?—you already understand why I created this.

Custom hat making is creative. It's messy. It's experimental. And sometimes you don't realize something isn't going to work until you've already attached it.

I wanted a better way to plan.

That's how the Freyja's Customs™ Hat Design Planner was born.

This wasn't designed as a generic small-business planner with the word "hat" added to it.

I created it around the actual process of designing custom hats.

Before permanently attaching patches, punching holes, installing grommets, adding chains, or placing dozens of rhinestones, I wanted a place where a design could come together first.

The finished planner follows a simple process:

Concept → Place → Track → Finalize

The goal is simple: get the idea out of your head and onto paper before you commit to the final build.

What's Inside the Hat Design Planner?

The printable workbook includes 14 pages covering different parts of the creative process.

You'll find dedicated worksheets for full-hat planning, brim layouts, side and crown details, patch placement, embellishments, colors and materials, material costs, final designs, project tracking, inspiration, and client consultations.

There's even space to record the things a customer absolutely does not want—because sometimes that's just as important as knowing what they do want.

And because it's a printable PDF, you can print fresh copies of the worksheets you need for each new project.

More Than a Pretty Sketch

One thing I didn't want was a planner that looked cute but didn't actually help someone run their creative process.

Design is only part of the job.

How much material did you use? What did it cost? Which project is due next? What did your client request? Which metal finish did they choose? Where was that specific patch supposed to go?

Those little details add up quickly when you're creating multiple pieces.

The planner gives those details somewhere to live instead of relying on screenshots, scraps of paper, messages, and memory.
